Spinal bone spurs
Osteopathy represents the medical term for bone spur. The bone grows large then normal if an external factor is applied to it. Usually this is a sign of spinal degeneration and it's associated with the aging process. Almost 50% of the population develops bone spurs and will suffer from back pain and leg pain.
The human spine is made of 32 vertebral segments. Each of them is separated by discs that absorbs shocks and give flexibility in motion. Injuries in the spine can cause degenerations in the discs and all the factors add up over the years : posture , injury, damage. Tissues degeneration start from a young age but the people are affected only in the later years : 70-80.
There are a number of factors that affect and speed up the degeneration process : heredity, nutrition, life-style and traumas. If the bone is enlarged the spinal canal can narrow and spinal stenosis can appear. The pain is going down the legs and it gets higher when the person walks or stands. Stenosis can be treatable if detected in time. The symptoms are straightforward and usually are : neck pain , lower back pain ,radiating pain into shoulders. When resting the pain is attenuated.
Patients with moderate nerve compression can manage the symptoms using : medicamenation, rest, physical therapy or even steroid injection. The surgery might relieve pain and neurology problems. Most of the operation are giving good results and improve the quality of life. The risk of operation can increase by age, blood pressure for diabetic and heart conditions. Also the recovery process can be slow and painful.
